2010-12-27 - Panlab wins Future Internet Award

The FP7 project PII was selected among 32 submissions to win the Future Internet Forum (FIF) award for the best initiative that is currently running and nearing completion. The pan-European testbed federation platform prototyped by PII builds upon a federation framework and the resource brokering system "Teagle" whose development is lead by Fraunhofer FOKUS. According to the Judging Panel, Panlab was "innovate and exemplar" and would have a "high impact". The award was officially presented at the closing plenary of the Future Internet Assembly (FIA) in Ghent on December 17, 2010.

2010-06-21 - Tutorial at 3rd Future Internet Symposium 2010 (FIS 2010)

Title: Federation of Future Internet Research & Experimentation (FIRE) Facilities - "Teagle" as a Tool for Generic Resource Federation

Abatract:Teagle is the central coordination and testbed deployment engine used in Panlab, a large scale federated experimental facility. Teagle allows the setup of distributed testbeds using ICT resources provided by Panlab. Such resources include general purpose machines, dedicated devices or complex software systems such as Next Generation Network (NGN) enablers and an Evolved Packet Core (EPC) for mobile and fixed NGN related testbeds. The resources can be booked and configured upon demand serving specific testing or experimentation needs. Users of this facility and its underlying infrastructure are research and development teams or individuals from industry and academia.

The tutorial will take place as part of FIS 2010.
Tentative date: September 20th 2010, morning session
More information can be found on the tutorial page ...

2010-06-14 - Teagle Tutorial at Tridentcom 2010

This year´s Tridentcom held in Berlin, 18-20 May, was a big success with around 130 attendees, featuring the ONIT workshop, two on-site Tutorials (Future Internet Technologies and Getting started with Teagle), and a 2-day technical program covering 11 sessions. Several keynotes from high level FIRE and GENI representatives gave an interesting insight into current and upcoming activities around Testbeds and Experimental Facilities for the Future Internet.

The Teagle tutorial was attended by 10 participants. The tutorial slides are available upon request. Please contact teagle@fokus.fraunhofer.de.

2008-12-08 - TridentCom 2009 Call for Participation

The 5th International Conference on Testbeds and Research Infrastructures for the Development of Networks & Communities April 6~8, 2009, Washington D.C., USA

TridentCom 2009 represents a landmark in the history of international testbed conferences. With the rapid convergence of networks and applications, changes in related industries, more complex value chains and increased competition, early prototyping and experimentation will become a key means for driving innovation and development of market oriented solutions. In this context, value generation has shifted from network technologies towards applications and content. Thus, the nature and scope of testbeds have changed substantially in recent years from solely network technologies towards complex service delivery infrastructures riding on various networks. In contrast to traditional vendor, operator and technology specific "closed" testbeds, the notion of "open" testbeds has emerged. "Open" in this context means both wide access as a shared resource and extensibility to include on-demand new end systems, network technologies, protocol stacks, and, most importantly, new middleware and service delivery platforms for specific test purposes. To meet this need, major research and development programs have started around the globe, including GENI in the U.S. and FIRE in Europe, to establish large scale experimental facilities.

TridentCom 2009 will provide a forum to explore existing and planned testbed concepts, infrastructures, and tools to address the research and business challenges in a world of global convergence. The TRIDENTCOM 2009 program will include the main technical paper tracks, two keynote speeches, invited talks, workshops, tutorials, and research demos, focusing on testbed, infrastructure, prototyping and experimental oriented research and complementing topics.

Venue and registration information will soon be updated at the conference web-site: www.tridentcom.org

We look forward to welcoming and seeing you in Washington DC!
